After we came through the first set of locks we travelled across the man made lake that was created with dams to solve some of the engineering problems. At the Pacific Ocen side of the dam we approached the enormous cuttings that had to be created through the mountains and saw the enormous crane that came, surprisingly, from Nazi Germany. We also passed the prison where Manuel Noriega was kept until his death in May 2017.
We approached the second set of locks that would bring us down to the level of the Pacific Ocean. However, a third much wider set was opend on 26 June 2016 so that the bigger ships could travel through the canal easily and also to double the capacity. Lots of people were at the viewing platforms to watch us go through.
