Papeete 4 of 4

We then headed to a snorkelling spot for the rest of the afternoon. On the way we were served a wonderful coconut-milk fish salad with rice and nuts as on the side. Our hostess prepared all the food in the tiny galley and laid it out as a smorgasbord so we could help ourselves and return for seconds if need be. We ate our delicious lunch as we sailed across the waves with the wind in our hair, the sun dancing across the waters creating mirror flashes of light and the sails billowing and forcing us forward. As we moved we passed numerous schools of fish, turtles and stingrays swimming in the clear water below us. When we stopped at the snorkelling spot we were amazed at the deep blue-green colours of the warm waters that we entered. We spent some time chasing fish, exploring coral displays and enjoying the thrill of seeing the wonderland around us. Tired from much diving and frolicking in the water we finally headed for the port. On our return trip we ate more fresh fruits and drank refreshing tea. It it was so relaxing and pleasant to just lie across the mesh trampoline mat listening to the waves splashing against the hull below and feeling the gentle warmth of the afternoon sun on our bodies. It is near the end of winter in Australia and maybe we will have a soft tan to welcome in Spring. As we entered the harbour port Telopia our friendly and helpful hostess decided to teach us how to do the hula-hula dance. She was very adept and demonstrated the moves carefully but none of us really managed it well and besides that we were too relaxed and maybe a little sun-tired to learn a new trick as grey clouds replaced the fluffy white ones we'd seen all day. Apparently, at this time of the year, nearing the wet season in October, the clouds build up in the late afternoon and short rain showers follow. That's why Tahiti is SO green.

What a wonderful day we had today. WE thanked our hots profusely and headed for the warm shoers in our cabin on the Sea Princess. Ah the South Pacific is a beautiful place to be in. Tomorrow we continue on to Raiatea, another South Pacific Island with wonders to behold.
